  • New Road!!!

Posted on August 11th, 2009 zacko 1 comment

Saturday I went to the heating plant and found workers putting in a new road for us!!! I took some pics (see the “photos” page). Then, on Monday I took more pics of the unfinished road. (I assume it’s unfinished… although I’m NOT a road expert). Thanks to Veronica (dean’s office) for your help and support of the Solar Car Club!!!

    • This is the finished road. It is referred to as Oil and Chip. This is a very common application for counties, and towns. It is cheaper then laying new asphalt, and after the loose gravel (chips) either wash off, or adhere to the oil, the surface is actually really nice. Next time we have temperatures in the 90′s, the road will start to “bleed” and the oil will really stick to all of the chips, making the surface even better. We do about 20 miles of Oil and Chip Roads every summer in the county I work for. Great pictures! That oil is about 300 deg, coming out of the spreader there!
